The allure of Las Vegas, with its shimmering lights and endless entertainment options, becomes even more irresistible when it plays host to the Shot Show 2024. This year, my adventure began with an exciting blend of celebrity encounters, industry insights, and the exploration of natural beauty, making it an unforgettable experience.

Upon landing in Vegas, I found myself biding time at the airport, eager for the adventures ahead. The agenda was packed, starting with picking up Tim and JT Smith of the TV series Moonshiners from their hotel at South Point. Our first stop was a tour of City Lights Shine and 17A Stillery, a showcase of immaculate distillation equipment and an opportunity for my companions to sample some of the finest in-house products. While I’m not one for spirits, the unanimous approval of the flavors assured me of their quality.

The exploration continued back at South Point Hotel and Casino, where we indulged in some of the exceptional cuisine offered by one of their eleven in-house restaurants. The culinary journey was a prelude to the visual feast at the Mecum motorcycle auction. The array of motorcycles, spanning decades of design and engineering, was staggering. Each piece, a collector’s dream, narrated a story of innovation and passion.

Our behind-the-scenes tour of the South Point Hotel revealed the intricate workings that sustain the hospitality above. The gun room, in particular, fascinated me with its meticulous organization, ensuring the smooth flow of spirits to the bars, restaurants, and casinos.

The heart of the expedition, however, was the Shot Show itself. Joined by Steve, an entrepreneur and a veteran attendee, we delved into the expanse of military, outdoor, and law enforcement innovation. The sheer scale of the event, with miles of booths laden with the latest gadgets and gear, was overwhelming. Despite my best efforts, I’m certain I only scratched the surface, often distracted by the joy of rekindling old friendships and forging new ones.

The presence of celebrities, united by their support for the Second Amendment and a shared love for the outdoors, added a layer of excitement to the show. Each encounter was a reminder of the community and camaraderie that the Shot Show fosters.

Midweek, my family joined the adventure, trading boots for tennis shoes to navigate the vast convention floor. Their experience echoed mine – a sensory overload, yet enriched by the generosity of exhibitors with their giveaways and the shared enthusiasm of fellow attendees.

Venturing beyond the convention, we embraced the natural beauty of Nevada, from snow skiing just west of Las Vegas to a serene drive through Red Rock Canyon. Each moment away from the bustling city was a breath of fresh air, offering a glimpse into the diverse landscapes that make the region unique.

As the show drew to a close, the rush to finalize deals and explore unseen corners of the convention was palpable. Yet, the highlight for me was the opportunity to unwind with an Elvis show, a quintessential Vegas experience.

The journey back home was marked by a missed flight, a testament to the hectic pace of the trip, but also a reminder of the importance of slowing down and appreciating each moment.

For anyone with a passion for the outdoors, military history, or law enforcement, the Shot Show is a pilgrimage worth making. Just remember to pack comfortable shoes and an open heart, ready to embrace both the adventures and the people you’ll meet along the way.

In closing, I encourage everyone to share the joy of outdoor activities with the younger generation, service members, and anyone with a love for adventure. The gratitude and happiness you’ll receive in return are priceless.

Until our paths cross at the next Shot Show or in the great outdoors, keep exploring, keep sharing, and keep discovering the wonders that lie in the heart of adventure.

Good luck hunting and fishing,

Travis
